About Us

In 2009 our family gave up our suburban life for an adventure in Bush Alaska and we love it here!

We started out in April 2009, in Kotzebue, 33 miles above the Arctic Circle. After 6 months my husband’s job had us moving to Dillingham,on the Bristol Bay, in Southwest Alaska. We were there from October 2009 until September 2010. These days you’ll find us out on the Yukon-Kuskokwim River Delta in Bethel. We’re not sure how long we’ll be here, but stick around, because…….

Life is an adventure…..this is ours!

    hello,

my wife & i will be moving to the alaskan bush next summer to work in the medical field. of the three towns you have lived in the bush, which would you recommend? also, i will only be working 6 month per year, which time of year do you prefer? thank you

    • Hmmm, which do I prefer? That’s hard to decide! I LOVE Kotzebue and Dillingham and would return to either in a heartbeat. I like Bethel, but I think I can love it here to if I stick around long enough.
Truth of the matter is that I love living in bush Alaska. Each of the towns have their own uniqueness and charm, and to be totally honest they all have some really yucky parts too!

As far as season, again, I can’t pick one. We have not spent a winter in Kotzebue, having arrived there in March. However it was still plenty cold there. The summer there was AMAZING, we swam in the Arctic Ocean, played softball under the midnight sun and picked berries on the tundra! We spent our first Alaskan winter in Dillngham, and aside from the darkness, it was fantastic too. Dillingham is beautiful. There are trees and mountains and lakes all around. Bethel and Kotz do not have trees and the mountains are very distant.

My advice to you is wherever you end up, it will be what you make of it.
Good luck and let us know if you need any more information!

Thank You. We are really deciding between Kotzebue & Bethel. Im aware of the no trees and distant mountains, but would like to get out and explore a bit. Seems like most people have said more positive things about Kotzebue, but hard to tell until i visit.

Did you find either dangerous at all or things that you would advise before making the decision?
